Travel insurance company Allianz Partners recently revealed the results of its European Summer Destinations review. Travel to Europe from the United States is up a whopping 600 percent over 2021, due, in part, to many European destinations reopening to U.S. travelers.
Memorial Day weekend serves as the unofficial start to summer travel and May 27 is expected to be the busiest travel day from the United States to Europe. Allianz Partners reviewed more than 40,000 flight itineraries for trips of five to eight days in length between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Taking the top spot, London accounted for 22 percent of bookings, likely due in part to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration taking place throughout 2022. Lisbon jumped up to No. 7 on the list after falling off in 2020 and 2021. Of those traveling to Europe, 75 percent will spend seven days on vacation this summer and 11 percent will spend eight days away from home.
