This year travel experts are seeing a major resurgence of all-inclusive resorts, with many travelers looking for “don’t think, just go” experiences, where they can revel in refined culinary programs and cocktail menus, expanded health and wellness options, and closer ties to the culture and heritage of the host countries.
One such idyllic all inclusive to add to this year’s bucket list lies within an exclusive part of a private island in Fiji’s beautiful Lomaiviti Group, spanning 2,200 acres of pristine beaches, ocean, lagoons and cliffs. It is Wakaya Club & Spa.
This picture-perfect island respite offers accommodations for up to 28 guests at any time in an all-inclusive atmosphere designed as a retreat for the mind, body and soul. It offers an on-site organic farm, unique Fijian culinary experiences, private beach picnics, indulgent spa treatments, once-in-a-lifetime water and adventure activities and much more. Here travelers may fully immerse themselves in the abundance of the island’s offerings.
The island’s biggest luxury is privacy. Accommodations include 10 free-standing waterfront Fijian cottage suites, or bures (pronounced boo-rays). Additional multi-bedroom suites include the two-bedroom, two-bath Vale Levu (big house) and the Sega Na Leqa (a Fijian phrase meaning “no worries”) a private estate villa with a master wing, two separate bathrooms, a state-of-the-art kitchen, private guest suite and a private infinity spa. Also available: the 12,000-square-foot, three-bedroom villa, the Vale’O (house in the clouds), situated atop a 16-acre estate with stunning panoramic ocean views. It comes with its own chauffeur, chef, full-service staff, tennis court and pool.
With two expansive, on-site farms producing micro-greens; herbs; and several varieties of lettuce, vegetables and tropical fruits, Wakaya’s culinary program features the freshest local ingredients available. These are foraged and prepared by a world-class culinary team comprised of experienced Fijian chefs. Guests can immerse themselves in authentic Fijian cuisine with dishes prepared in a traditional lovo fire piled with volcanic stones, a long, slow smoked cooking technique, or learn to dive and spearfish for that evening’s dinner.
Activities include scuba or snorkeling in the marine preserve directly in front of the accommodations, exploring the world’s most beautiful reefs guided by an on-site diving expert. The island offers hiking trails and guided nature walks as well as a variety of ocean water sports including stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, jet skiing and Hobie Cat sailing. Wakaya guests interested in diving can participate in courses led by an expert diver to achieve certification. There is also a nine-hole golf course, tennis court and a professional croquet lawn, with private lessons available with Wakaya’s golf/tennis pro. Also offered: private beach picnics and infinity swimming pools.
Wakaya’s on-site spa, Breeze, offers relaxing treatments using Pure Fiji products, including restorative massages utilizing a hybrid shiatsu/Swedish technique, Watsu, and wraps and scrubs using tropical ingredients and tonics in two beautiful massage/treatment rooms. The complex includes a body-temperature serenity pool and lanai and a fully equipped fitness center.

Apr 17, 2024Amansara Review
It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
