Groundbreaking ceremonies on opposite sides of the country signal smoother travels for passengers flying through New York City and Seattle.

Delta Air Lines broke ground Aug. 8 on its $4 billion facility at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, as part of the promised total makeover of that airport. The new terminal will have four concourses with 37 flexibly sized gates that can accommodate Delta’s full fleet; a new, larger Delta Sky Club with a Sky Deck; new hold rooms with more seating; and 30 percent more concessions space, the airline said in a statement.

And in Seattle, Delta Air Lines and the Port of Seattle broke ground on a new international arrivals terminal at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The $766 million, 450,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to open in late 2019 and will be able to serve 2,600 passengers per hour and will offer twice the number of gates capable of serving international wide-body aircraft. The new terminal is also designed with more than twice the number of passport check positions and kiosks to make the baggage claim process much smoother.
