Airbnb recently announced its largest update ever, adding a whopping 65 new features to the platform. Airbnb revealed smarter search and improved maps to help travelers discover hidden gems. When searching for a stay, Airbnb will show users more options for homes just outside the search criteria to help users discover great options they otherwise might have missed.
New maps also let users filter for nearby landmarks, attractions, restaurants and more. Simply tap on any point of interest to see a summary of how far it is from the property searched. Later this year, the platform will also introduce different map views, including satellite, street and transit.
The platform also announced travelers have a new way to pay with the Reserve Now, Pay Later. Through this process, guests have the option to reserve an eligible stay and pay $0 upfront. Beginning next year, the payment option will be available worldwide.
Expanded AI-powered customer support in more countries and languages (including English, Spanish and French for users in North America) is also now available through the platform, as well as more tools to help hosts manage calendars and pricing. Hosts can enjoy more flexibility and insight via dynamic cancellation policies, improved price tips and updated earnings dashboard (slated to begin next year).
One of the largest updates, however, is Airbnb’s new social features for Airbnb Experiences. Now, travelers can connect with other guests through the trip and after. Airbnb conducted a survey and found more than 7 in 10 respondents said they would like to know more about other guests before booking an experience. As a result, the platform will now show guests who are already going on that experience, along with where they’re from.
Guests can also now request to directly message guests first met during an experience to stay in touch or even plan a next experience together, all in the Airbnb app. And in the Connections section of the Airbnb Profile tab, users can see the people they’ve met on experiences, making it easier to reconnect with them.
While Airbnb announced these new and expanded features, the platform also shared a new restriction in anticipation of Halloween weekend. The platform announced it will deploy its “advanced anti-party technology” across both the United States and Canada. This automated system flags and blocks suspicious bookings (which often include short, last-minute stays booked by locals) before confirmed.

Sep 17, 2026High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture
It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
