Flight cancelations stemming from fuel supply problems at Aukland Airport affected some 2,000 travelers flying with Air New Zealand last month.
All flights in and out of Auckland Airport were impacted. Air New Zealand said it took steps to consolidate passenger loads and minimize fuel usage to offset the supply issues. Several New Zealand long-haul flights to and from Asia and North America had to make refueling stops at airports in Australia and the Pacific. Some stopped at Nadi, Fiji (NAN) to refuel, and at least one stopped at Brisbane (BNE).
“Aviation is a critical transport industry and the lifeblood for tourism and we are naturally extremely disappointed with this infrastructure failure,” said David Morgan, chief operations integrity and standards officer, Air New Zealand.
Other flights were canceled altogether, including one from Melbourne (MEL) to Auckland, and several between Wellington (WLG) and Auckland.
