Air China will begin non-stop service between San José (SJC) and Shanghai (PVG) Sept. 1. The new route will operate three times weekly on an Airbus A330-200 with business and economy cabins. San José is the airline’s 10th gateway in North America. “This has been a tremendous year for Mineta San José International Airport and I’m excited that Silicon Valley business and leisure travellers will soon be able to fly non-stop to Shanghai. Shanghai is a major centre of commerce in China and one of the top five requested international destinations by Silicon Valley travellers, and this flight will help strengthen the economic ties between our two regions,” said Sam Liccardo, mayor, San José. The route will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with a 13:30 departure from Shanghai and 10:40 arrival in San José. Return flights will depart San José at 12:30 and arrive in Shanghai at 16:40 the following day. “Linking two forward-looking cities is a fulfillment of our company’s mission of promoting economic growth and connectivity,” said Dr. Zhihang Chi, vice president of North America, Air China. “The interdependence of two of the world’s largest economies makes the San José-Shanghai service a compelling case in this age of globalization.”
