TAP Air Portugal announced two new U.S. routes. Next year, the airline begins non-stop service between Lisbon (LIS) and Washington, D.C. (IAD) and Chicago (ORD). Five weekly round-trip flights serve both destinations starting in June.

Chicago flights operate Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, departing Chicago at 6:05 p.m., arriving in Lisbon at 7:50 a.m. the following morning. Return flights leave Lisbon at 1:05 p.m., arriving at O’Hare at 4:05 p.m.

Washington, D.C. flights operate Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, with a 10:40 p.m. departure, arriving in Lisbon at 10:50 a.m. the following day. Return flights leave Lisbon at 4:30 p.m., arriving in the States at 7:40 p.m.

“With more than 70 new planes on the way, this is only just the beginning,” said David Neeleman, founder, JetBlue Airways, and major shareholder in TAP. “We have 10 gateways from Brazil to Portugal and believe we can support the same number from the United States. [The] expansion to Chicago and Washington, D.C., reflects what an increasingly popular destination Portugal has become, especially with visitors from the United States. Our network beyond Lisbon is also growing. We now serve 55 destinations in Europe and 17 in Africa and fully 50 percent of our American passengers are flying us to places beyond Portugal, many making use of our popular Portugal Stopover program.”

The Portugal Stopover program allows travelers to enjoy up to five nights in Lisbon or Porto before flying on to a European or African destination for no extra airfare. Local partners offer Stopover guests hotel savings, complimentary experiences and more.
