SATS-Creuers Cruise Services Pte Ltd. announced last week it will build a smart terminal solution for Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore, the first of its kind in Asia.
The smart solution will increase the terminal’s overall ability to accommodate passengers. Sensors, video analytics and data management will increase the efficiency of the terminal.
Traffic sensors will allow terminal staff to monitor crowds at various checkpoints and respond to situations as they arise. Analytics will allow MBCCS to update cruise lines and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority to better resource plan and coordinate for smoother operations overall.
According to SATS-Creuers, the southeast region of Asia is expected to see 4.5 million cruise passengers by 2035. Increased functionality will better the view of MBCCS in the eyes of cruise lines, making the terminal a strong choice for ships’ home terminal.
“We experienced an increase of 31% ship calls and 51% passengers handled last year. This significant growth in cruise travel is expected to continue. Augmenting our processes with technology will help us manage the increased volume more efficiently and provide a pleasant, seamless travel experience for our passengers,” said Lionel Wong, chief executive officer, MBCCS
