There’s plenty happening this year in Halifax on Canada’s Atlantic island of Nova Scotia. Through March 15, the Savour Food & Wine Festival continues with Dine Around, showcasing the region’s top food and beverages at restaurants including Little Fish Oyster Bar, Kiju’s, GahanHouse, Five Fisherman Restaurant and a host of other eateries.

May 2–6, the East Coast Music Awards get underway, celebrating East Coast Canadian music and artists. Love ocean racing? The Route Halifax/Saint-Pierre is a 350-mile ocean race from Canada to France. Watch the sailing vessels and teams set off from the Halifax Waterfront in front of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic June 26 amid fanfare and excitement. The surrounding festival — Saint-Pierre et Miquelon Des Iles d’Exception — begins June 22, with music and food leading up to the race’s beginning.

Also in June, The Royal International Nova Scotia Tattoo celebrates its 40^th anniversary June 26–July 2, with a selection of colorful performances. July 1, vintage cars will roll into town on the final leg of The Great Race. Later in the month on July 15, it’s the 90^th anniversary of the opening of the Pier 21 Port of Immigration. The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is the place to learn all about the history of immigration in Canada, with exhibitions detailing moving stories of building homes and legacies in Canada 1928–1971.
