If you read my blogs often, you will notice they often revolve around restaurant and bar visits. Whether visiting local neighborhoods or exploring new cities, I find food and drink the best way to experience a destination. A few weekends ago my husband and I visited some wineries and a brewery in Hammonton, N.J., with some friends.

Our first stop was Sharrott Winery. Located on a former apple orchard, the award-winning winery offers tastings seven days a week. The winery specializes in dry reds and whites with some sweeter options, as well. Our group participated in a tasting then selected a bottle of wine to split on their patio. We agreed on the Chambourcin, which we enjoyed from our souvenir glasses from the tasting.

Next stop: White Horse Winery. The tasting room features live music and we arrived just in time to listen to a performance. We each did a wine tasting, selecting samples from five different wines. To accompany our wine, we ordered a cheese board and an antipasto board.

We visited one last winery during our trip, Plagido’s Winery. There were several other groups at Plagido’s when we arrived, which made executing a tasting difficult. Instead of enjoying a leisurely tasting, we decided to move on to one last spot.

For our last stop we switched to beer. Three 3’s Brewing is located right in the middle of several wineries in Hammonton. The taproom is open Wednesday–Sunday. Hammonton is considered the blueberry capital of the world. Three 3’s takes advantage of this, offering a Blueberry Saison on its tap list. We enjoyed a mix of tastings and full pours and ordered a pizza to be delivered to the brewery.

A short drive from Philadelphia, consider making a trip to Hammonton to visit the town’s wineries and breweries.
