The culinary scene in Aruba is booming, and dining is as important as snorkeling, windsurfing and nightlife.

Sitting 15 miles off the coast of Venezuela, Aruba has a symbiotic relationship with America, where U.S. dollars are accepted and direct flights pre-clear U.S. immigration and customs on the island. Tourism is the mainstay of the island’s economy as the United States delivers more than 60 percent of the growing numbers.

With more than 200 restaurants on the island and at least 25 located directly on the water, there’s fine dining galore. Every cuisine imaginable is available in Aruba and diners can enjoy a variety of Dutch, South American and Caribbean influences. Prices are comparable to major U.S. cities. Some restaurants have been on the island for quite some time, but new spots and concepts are eagerly anticipated.
The Aruba Gastronomic Association offers a selection of Dine Around Plans with 30 of the island’s restaurants participating, beginning with three dinners for $150 per person. Many of the hotels have in-house restaurants from casual to fine dining, and also offer meal plans.

Here are a few recommendations for some of the best restaurants Aruba offers.

Madam Janette

Acclaimed and awarded, a garden strung with fairy lights is delightfully atmospheric. The continental cuisine is superb with distinctive sauces and offerings.

Papiamento

White-clothed, candlelit tables surround the pool of a 19th-century manor house. A family restaurant, specialties include Aruban fish and grilled tenderloin with gorgonzola au gratin. Be sure to save time to walk through the house.

Linda’s Dutch Pancakes and Pizza

If you’re in the mood for breakfast or even breakfast for dinner, Linda’s serves pancakes all day until 10 p.m. Whether pancakes topped with walnuts with melted Brie and a drizzle of honey or ham and Gouda cheese, it happens in a little house by the side of the road.

The Old Cunucu House

The original Aruban farmhouse was built more than 150 years ago and is the perfect spot to enjoy traditional cuisine, authentic Aruban culture and the hospitality of the country.

Hotel Nice Beau Rivage Review

In the city Henri Matisse once called home — and where Musée Matisse holds his largest collection — Hotel Beau Rivage has a special connection with the artist, who first visited the hotel in 1916 and painted famous sea views from his room 89 in 1917. Today, framed Matisse prints — many brightly colored cut-out collages from the artist’s JAZZ collection — decorate its walls. Hotel guests also benefit from a partnership with the museum.
