Austrian Airlines announced last month it will launch its first route to the U.S. west coast April 10, 2017.
The route will take passengers between Los Angeles (LAX) and Vienna (VIE) up to six times a week in the summer. The flight to Los Angeles will take around 12 hours and 30 minutes, and the flight back to Austria should take a little less time due to a tail wind that reduces the flight time to 11 hours and 55 minutes.
Though Austrian Airlines recently discontinued its Vienna–Dubai (DBX) route, the airline has been adding more routes to the United States in recent years. Since early 2013, the airline launched routes to Chicago (ORD), Miami (MIA) and Newark (EWR). The airline also operates routes to New York (JFK) and Washington Dulles (IAD).
“We will fly to the West Coast with our existing fleet and are already very excited about this new venture,” Andreas Otto, chief commercial officer, Austrian Airlines, said in a statement obtained by USA Today. “Initially, the Los Angeles–Vienna route will be served seasonally in the summer 2017 flight schedule.”
