For the first time in 95 years, New York City’s The Knickerbocker Hotel is offering an ultra-exclusive New Year’s Eve celebration to usher in 2016, just 150 feet from the world-famous Waterford Crystal Ball.

The property had a history of hosting New Year’s Eve affairs from about 1906 to 1921. With the hotel packed every Dec. 31, the newspaper society pages used to print the names of those who had reserved tables. Other historical fun facts include:

• The Knick always had at least 50 tuxedos on hand for guests lacking suitable attire
• Nearly 16,000 people passed through the hotel at some point on Dec. 31, 1907
• Custom-made Champagne glasses were flown in from Paris in 1908 for the hotel’s newest cocktail, a French peach Champagne
• Traditionally, the hotel went dark and silent a few minutes before midnight, until the house lights came on and the party broke into “Auld Lange Syne”

This year, the night kicks off with dinner and dancing at Charlie Palmer’s at the Knick, the hotel’s fourth-floor restaurant. The specially crafted menu will feature classic, 1920s-inspired dishes. Guests have a view of the ball drop from St. Cloud, the hotel’s rooftop bar. Entertainment includes fire dancers and a DJ. Packages for two start at $2,890 and include access to The Knickerbocker’s black-tie gala and New Year’s Day brunch, as well as a one-night stay.
