Marriott International’s pending purchase of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide for $12.2 billion will grow the combined portfolio to more than 1 million rooms across 5,456 hotels, making it the largest hotel company by room count, according to a new list from Hotel News Now. Hilton Worldwide is the second biggest, with 737,922 rooms across 4,480 hotels, while InterContinental Hotels Group is ranked third, with 726,876 rooms across 4,963 properties. New to the top 10 list this year is the merger between Jin Jiang International and Plateno Hotel Group, ranking as the fifth-largest hotel company with approximately 640,000 rooms in approximately 6,000 hotels.
