U.S. online customers are moving toward shopping and buying their travel via mobile devices rather than desktops and laptops, according to a new report from Phocuswright and Millward Brown Digital. Desktop websites for airlines experienced a 13 percent drop in monthly unique visitors last year, while online travel agency website traffic decreased 8 percent. Hotel website traffic increased 3 percent. According to the report, the percentage of U.S. online travelers who used a mobile device to book travel increased to almost 30 percent last year from almost 20 percent in 2013, citing a poll of almost 2,700 Americans. The boost in the number of people using mobile during the travel-shopping process is increasing mobile-booking numbers. “It is just going to get more and more comfortable, and travel companies are making it easier for people to book on mobile,” said Cathy Schetzina Walsh, senior research analyst, Phocuswright, author of the report.
