Recently I traveled to Windstar Cruises headquarters in Miami, Florida, to deliver the cruise line’s Leisure Lifestyle award. What made this visit especially memorable was getting a firsthand look at the people and culture behind this exceptional cruise line.
I arrived a bit early, so Patty Gonzalez, vice president of Marketing, welcomed me and gave me a tour of the offices. Everywhere I looked there were reminders of the Windstar brand: beautiful ship models, destination-inspired décor and large books featuring photos and specifications of each ship. The offices really reflect what Windstar is all about: adventure, innovation and a genuine passion for travel.

The highlight of the visit came when employees gathered to celebrate the award presentation with Janet Bava, chief commercial officer, and president Christopher Prelog. What struck me most was Janet’s message to the team. Rather than focusing on the award itself, she made it clear the recognition belonged to everyone in the room.
Looking around, it was easy to see how much pride the team takes in what they do and how much the recognition meant to them.

I also learned no Windstar celebration would be complete without “ringing the bell.”
Christopher and I had the opportunity to ring the company’s bell together as employees applauded and cheered. It was such a fun moment and a fitting way to recognize a team effort. Awards may have a company name engraved on them, but they’re really earned by the people behind the scenes who work every day to deliver outstanding experiences.
Visiting Windstar Cruises headquarters and having the opportunity to celebrate their success in person was such a fun experience; it kept me smiling all the way back to Sarasota. I left with an even greater appreciation for the people who make Windstar such a special brand.
