Leave Switzerland without a fine watch and live with regret forever. Jacques Gevril was the first Swiss watchmaker to export a timepiece, at the request of Spain’s King Ferdinand VI in 1758. A 1781 Gevril pocket watch, on display at the Museum Geneve, has distinctive texturing of dial materials. That “Guilloched” technique is embodied today in the limited edition Avenue of Americas collection, featuring raised numbers, white mother-of-pearl, sapphire crystal and a Louisiana crocodile leather band. Collection ranges from $2,195 to $8,995, for the full case diamond. www.gevril.com
After a day in the Alps, warm up with a cuppa poured from this Terra Keramik ceramic teapot. The Winterthur-based artisans embody Swiss affection for clean lines and simple design when creating the teapots, which come in eight colors. Terra Keramik uses environmentally friendly techniques, such as lead-free glazes, clay that fires with lower energy and recyclable packaging. Teapots hold eight cups. $112. www.artazza.com
Visitors are welcome to tour the Glasi Hergiswil factory on the shores of Lake Lucerne, where craftsmen blow glass into delicate dinnerware, candlesticks and more. Be sure to also tour the Museum of Glass and follow the factory’s history, which dates back to 1817. This Glasi Hergiswil birdfeeder is about $43.
When thinking about Swiss precision and mastery, the first thing to come to mind probably isn’t a toy. But perhaps it should be. Wooden Naef Toys are handmade in Switzerland with meticulous attention to detail, imagination and safety. The colorful Cella challenges children to create designs using nine half-cube shells. About $150–180. www.naefusa.com

May 28, 2025Williamsburg Inn Review
You don’t have to love brass chandeliers or brocade to appreciate what Williamsburg Inn does best: delivering a polished, unpretentious stay amid America’s most iconic living history museum. This is where you check in for traditional luxury without feeling like you’re trapped in a time capsule. The Queen stayed here (twice), and so did Eisenhower, but you’re not here to make history. You’re here to enjoy it, on your own terms.
