Manitoba’s beautiful capital city of Winnipeg has lots of new and updated attractions this year. The stunning new $43 million home of Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada is now open, featuring 22 aircraft and 14 immersive galleries.

The 109-year-old Fort Garry Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre, Ascend Hotel Collection recently restored its main dining room and relaunched it as Oval Room Brasserie, while also unveiling a new state-of-the-art fitness facility.

Dinosaur enthusiasts can see giant, full-scale skeletons of new and exotic dinosaurs from the Southern Hemisphere at the new blockbuster exhibition at Manitoba Museum, ULTIMATE DINSOAURS! The exhibit runs May 21–Sept. 5.
FortWhyte Alive’s on-site eatery, Buffalo Stone Café, teams up with social enterprise Something Beautiful and Chef Zack Ssenkungu to create a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Winnipeg’s food scene continues to welcome hot new spots to eat and drink this spring, including a Northern Manitoba-style pizza joint, Takoyaki takeout and several new coffee shops.

2022 is the Year of the Garden in Canada, and Winnipeg’s newest green gem is The Gardens at The Leaf, located in Assiniboine Park. Featuring six unique outdoor areas, The Leaf is an expansive new outdoor garden which will continue to evolve as the greenery matures each season. The six new outdoor areas are The Indigenous Peoples Garden, created by Indigenous landscape and architectural designers in collaboration with Indigenous elders and community leaders; Kitchen Garden, which focuses on active gardening with edible plants like vegetables, fruits and herbs; Seasonal Garden, a garden centered around the four-season Manitoba experience, celebrating change with perennial plants; Sensory Garden, which features garden beds with colorful, aromatic and tactile plants, tall prairie grass and hills with rock steps to climb; Performance Garden, an outdoor stage surrounded by tiered cement offering levels of grassy seating around the stage; and The Grove, a space showcasing impressively tall trees lining beautiful scenic paths.
Finally, CURRENT Winnipeg launches its new, weekend-long festival experience at The Forks, Aug. 12–14. This sophisticated summer experience highlights the city’s thriving drinks, music, visual art and culinary scenes.
