Thanksgiving Day, we walked into Hilton Americas – Houston and entered a magical, holiday-themed lobby. Guests were busy snapping selfies beside a life-sized scene from The Nutcracker. The iconic display — made from chocolate and gingerbread — weighed two tons. Rows of trees shimmering in white lights, pots of poinsettias and an abundance of wrapped gifts added to the festive ambiance. And Santa even offered to take a photo with us.
The downtown hotel, with 1,207 guestrooms, is the largest in the city. The property shares a campus with Discovery Green — a 12-acre urban park with a jogging trail, outdoor art, fitness classes, lake, ice rink and quiet spots to enjoy nature. If you go, check the facility’s calendar for special events. The illuminated art installation, Mosaic of Light by HYBYCOZO, runs through Feb. 27, 2022.
Conveniently connected to George R. Brown Convention Center with a walkway, Hilton Americas is an obvious choice for meeting planners. During our stay, the hotel served as home base to athletes from around the world competing for the 2021 World Table Tennis Championship.
Five dining options are available at the property. Guests can order in-room dining or grab a to-go item from the Texas-sized Starbucks. Casual meals are served at the 1600 Bar + Grille, Pappasito’s Cantina,and the Lobby Bar. Some two dozen restaurants and bars lie within approximately one mile of the hotel. We ordered take-out from BOH Pasta & Pizza. The made-from-scratch Garlicky Lobster Fettuccine was divine.
Our 20th-floor, mobility-accessible guestroom with two comfy raised beds featured one wall of bold abstract artwork, a mini fridge, coffee/tea server, 65-inch television, numerous power outlets and modern furniture. Guests can schedule a variety of invigorating treatments at Skyline Spa. A heated indoor pool and health club with a large selection of equipment keeps fitness routines on track.
Thanks to a recently completed $54 million transformation project focusing on functionality and comfort, the Hilton Americas’ guestrooms and 91,500 square feet of meeting spaces felt brand new. The fresh renovation and the hotel’s proximity to the Discovery Green are a winning combination for either the business or leisure traveler.
