Attached to the Delamar West Hartford Hotel, Artisan is a true farm-to-table restaurant that uses ingredients from its very own garden. The seasonal menu changes with what vegetables, fruits and herbs are ready to be picked. I had the pleasure of visiting Artisan for lunch in the garden area.

There are three seating areas: one inside with colonial-style décor, a covered patio area with a brick floor and ceiling fans, and various tables placed around the vegetable garden. We sat in the garden area surrounded by fresh herbs, tomatoes, squash and pear trees and were covered by lush trees for shade. Each table was covered in white with a pop of color from fresh flowers. As we perused the menu, we were given a slice of freshly made bread with butter. Our waitress stopped by to tell us all about the menu and that she was the keeper of the garden. She mentioned the squash was just picked and that helped me make my decision. As it was lunch, I opted to have water to stay hydrated. For my main, I ordered the garden squash and green zucchini veloute with a curry cream while my partner ordered a Maine lobster roll.

We enjoyed our view while waiting, but the service was very quick. My soup was delicious. The curry cream soup was so fresh and bursting with flavor. The presentation was stunning with the bright yellow soup, a drizzle of olive oil and fresh parsley on top. The Maine lobster roll’s bread had been toasted with grill marks and was piled high with lobster bits. I am, unfortunately, allergic to shellfish, but my partner said it was one of the best lobster rolls he has ever had. It was accompanied by fries and coleslaw. I ate every last spoonful of my dish and, although I was full, I could have easily eaten more.

Our waitress stopped by again to see how we were doing and asked if we wanted any coffee or dessert. I usually don’t order dessert, but the lavender crème brulee caught my eye. Lavender is one of my favorite smells and tastes; it was brightly colored with strawberry compote, a citrus madeleine and purple edible flower. The dish did not disappoint. The cracking of the caramelized sugar on top was satisfying along with the texture of the cream and floral flavor pop.

For travelers in the area of West Hartford, I fully recommend making a reservation for fresh cuisine and lovely atmosphere.
