As a widely varying country split up over several different islands, there is always enough reason to extend your business trip by a few days to take in the beauty and elegance of Indonesia. Take our advice and make these stops top priority when you next visit.

Day 1 Arrive in Jakarta, take in history and culture through museums
Day 2 Travel to Bali and explore the monkey sanctuary.
Day 3 Explore local museums and sights in Denpasur
Day 4 Fly to Borneo and volunteer with Orangutan conservancy.

Day 1

Start your Indonesian adventure off with a trip to one of the country’s best-known cities. Jakarta is home to Indonesia’s National Museum. The museum opened in the 1800 and includes a number of exhibits in all kinds of categories. Archaeological, historical, ethnological and geographical exhibits make up this Jakarta staple. You can spend plenty of time in the museum, but once you’re finished, go to the National Monument. The monument immortalizes Indonesia’s struggle for independence.

Day 2

Bali is one of the biggest draws for visitors coming to Indonesia and for good reason. Travel to the island in the morning and get ready for a day connecting with nature. Bali is home to beaches, forests and much more. Go to Ubud and visit the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. This is a popular attraction, and more than 1,000 monkeys live in the forest. It is a great opportunity to interact with wildlife. If you have any extra time, make it to Denpasar to enjoy Sanur beach.

Day 3

If you spent day two exploring Bali’s nature, day three is a chance to see the state’s metropolitan side. Visit the Bali Museum for a look at a large collection of Balinese cultural artifacts. From Denpasar, you can see Tanah Lot, a recognizable rock formation and one of Indonesia’s must-see spots. Make the most of your time in Bali and get lots of photos. Finish the day with a trip to Bajra Sandhi Monument. The monument honors the struggles Balinese people faced throughout history.

Day 4

Hop on a quick flight and spend your final day in Borneo. Plan to spend hours in Tanjung Putting National Park where you can encounter orangutans, monkeys, gibbons and more than 200 kinds of birds. Put your visit to good use and volunteer to help the local orangutan conservation efforts and you will be rewarded with access to wild apes.

Plan a Legendary Gathering in Honolulu
