Genting Cruise Lines, the operator behind Dream Cruises, showed off the latter’s first-ever global-class ship. Global Dream is set to arrive in Asia in 2021.
When it arrives, Global Dream will be the largest cruise ship in the world by passenger volume. The new ship, being constructed in Germany, has 20 decks and can accommodate more than 9,000 passengers in 2,350 cabins.
It also features one of the world’s first rollercoasters at sea. It will be the world’s longest cruise line rollercoaster, with a 300-metre track. The Space Cruiser, as it’s called, joins the ship’s onboard theme park. The coaster’s vehicle lets riders customize the experience, making sure no one gets a ride too intense or too mild.
Genting Cruise Lines hopes to have the new ship service ports of call in India.
“With India traditionally having larger extended families and the increasing trend of multi-generation travel in general, Dream Cruises’ fleet of cruise ships offers convenient multi-generation travel solutions through its current roster of Genting Dream, World Dream and Explorer Dream,” said Michael Goh, president, Dream Cruises.
“The number of cruise tourists is growing in the country. With the development of cruise ports in India and innovations in the cruising industry, we are very happy to have a number of cruises entering the country. We witnessed the unveiling of Genting Cruise Lines new ship and the wonderful innovations on board. We hope to have the Genting fleet enter India in the near future,” said Mansukh Mandaviya Ji, minister of state for shipping, Government of India.
At a recent exhibition, the cruise line displayed a full-sized replica of the new ship’s smart cabins. The cabins are about 15 per cent larger than the industry standard and come packed with, as the name implies, smart technology. Cabins are able to accommodate up to four guests and have two bathrooms to maximize space.
