JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa opened on Vagaru Island, part of the Shaviyani atoll in the Maldives, last month.

The resort offers 60 spacious villas, all with private pools and sunbathing decks. Select villas offer overwater pools or direct access to white-sand beaches. Additional split-level villas are designed with multigenerational family travelers in mind, created to give everyone privacy, as well as spaces to come together. Each room’s décor reflects the local nature and wildlife, from thatched roofs to color choices.

There’s always something for guests to do on property. A full range of mindfulness-focused activities are available through the fitness center and spa, including yoga sessions and workout classes. Adults-only spaces include a shisha room, billiards room and cigar room. A kids club provides spots for children to enjoy educational activities, play and even a nap.

Five restaurants offer fresh Maldivian seafood, Thai cuisine, brick-oven pizza, Japanese teppanyaki and fine dining. Three bars offer more than 300 varieties of wine, sake, nearly 100 varieties of rum and cocktails.
