For much of its life, Hotel Peter and Paul in New Orleans operated as Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Its various buildings —a rectory, church, schoolhouse and convent — date 1860–1900. They’re grand old buildings with stunning architectural details.

For the past decade the buildings sat empty and abandoned, grandeur fading. That is, until 2014, when a local developer partnered with design-development company ASH NYC to restore the buildings and turn them into a hotel, restaurant and event space. Hotel Peter and Paul opened in late 2018 and has been lauded by publications around the country.

Today, Hotel Peter and Paul is a happening gathering place in its Marigny neighborhood of colorful shotgun houses, coffee shops and small bistros. The hotel is noteworthy for several reasons, not least among them its fetching design elements. The team restored a grand, curving staircase just off the lobby and turned the auditorium stage into guestrooms whose doors blend into a trompe l’oeil backdrop. They polished the church’s ornate stained-glass windows, which overlook a charming courtyard. They filled sitting areas with gorgeous gingham drapery and antique French furniture, plus added new locally crafted pieces. They restored other original details, from the cypress wood moldings, wainscoted corridors and marble fireplaces to the original rectory flagpole; and they built a magnificent restaurant and bar, the Elysian Bar, which already garnered much-deserved recognition from the James Beard Awards.

The hotel’s 71 rooms sport similar attention to detail, with the same custom gingham fabrics and antique furniture throughout. Luxurious touches from beds to bathrooms help bring a contemporary sense of comfort.

Whether you’re visiting for an overnight stay, dining in the Elysian Bar or just sipping a cocktail in the leafy courtyard, Hotel Peter and Paul is a remarkable spot in one of New Orleans’ most charming neighborhoods. It’s well worth a visit, and probably, a few Instagram photos, too.

Relax, Rejuvenate and Heal at StolenTime

At the namesake luxury, 5-star all-inclusive resort in Saint Lucia, the concept of “stolen time” used to be reserved for couples escaping to canoodle, reconnect and perhaps rekindle in sumptuous accommodations during a romantic getaway on the lush Caribbean island. But when StolenTime by Rendezvous rebranded in late 2022 to welcome all adult guests and focus more on wellness, the philosophy expanded to encompass self-reflection, personal growth and enrichment. After all, time is our most precious commodity, one that’s finite and too quickly slips through our grasp; we need to find those moments that matter and make them count.
