British Airways, in collaboration with Royal College of Art, opened its limited-time “BA 2119: Flight of the Future” exhibition at Saatchi Gallery in London. The exhibition is free and open to the public through Aug. 26.
Part of British Airways’ centennial celebration, the exhibition looks at the next century of flight and includes a VR experience that takes travelers through time, exploring major milestones in the history of air travel. As for the future, British Airways predicts hyper-personalization, flight cruising and hypersonic flights are all a possibility.
In conjunction with the exhibition, British Airways produced its “BA 2119: Flight of the Future Report,” a large consumer travel study created in consultation with leading experts and futurologists. The report surveyed 13,000 travelers from 10 countries. Consumers reported several amenities they would prefer to see in the future of air travel, including in-flight social spaces, in-flight immigration and visa processes and in-flight concierges.
“The findings of the BA 2119: Flight of the Future Report not only offer us unprecedented insight into how consumers across the world feel about flying now, but what they will expect from us, as airlines, in the future. In the last 10 years alone, the airline industry and flight experience has changed in so many significant ways, including improved fuel efficiency, noise reduction, in-cabin design and luxury. It is therefore not hard to see how, at this rate of progress, these seemingly unreal predictions will come true,” said Alex Cruz, chairman and CEO, British Airways.
“This is a really exciting way to mark our centenary, which has seen us remember the past, celebrate the present and predict the future in collaboration with fantastic partners from across industry and academia.”
