What is Global Wellness Day? With a slogan of “One day can change your whole life,” it’s an entirely non-profit day aimed at living well. Its main goals include recognizing the value of our lives; to pause and think, even if just for one day of the year; to be free from the stress of everyday city life and bad habits; to make peace with ourselves; and to raise awareness about living well and increase motivation year-round.
First started in 2012 and established in Turkey, Global Wellness Day is celebrated yearly on the second Saturday in June. This year, it will be recognized this Saturday, June 9.
The worldwide celebration encourages everyone to take one step toward a healthier life. The Global Wellness Institute and Global Wellness Day suggest seven ways to celebrate Global Wellness Day:
- Walk for one hour: The brain secretes endorphins as you walk, which can make you happier.
- Drink more water: Not drinking enough water can lead to exhaustion, attention deficiency and memory problems.
- Don’t use plastic bottles: Plastic bottles damage both our health and the planet.
- Eat healthy food: Consume foods produced through natural methods, without pesticides and chemicals.
- Do a good deed: See how you can change your life by helping to change someone else’s.
- Have a family dinner with loved ones: Some research shows dinner with loved ones has a positive effect on children suffering from obesity.
- Sleep at 10 p.m.: Sleep regulates everything in the body and helps it repair and heal itself.
Will you celebrate Global Wellness Day? How do you incorporate wellness into your everyday life and travels? Tell us. Email us at letters@globaltravelerusa.com. Please include your full name and location.
