Consider a trip to one of these lesser-known destinations for fall travel.
Andermatt, Switzerland
While the Alpine village may be better known for its winter offerings, the destination offers plenty for fall travel. Explore hundreds of miles of hiking trails with picturesque views. Golf enthusiasts may take advantage of one free green fee per person with a direct booking at several properties, Sept. 28–Oct. 18. The team at Restaurant Gütsch serves up a multi-course meal under the stars on Oct. 9, during an expected meteor shower.
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Experience beautiful scenery alongside family-friendly fall fun in Colorado Springs. Head to Miners’ Pumpkin Patch for pumpkin picking, hayrides and fall treats. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo hosts its annual Boo at the Zoo, with Halloween-themed fun. Go on a hike at Garden of the Gods Park for fall foliage views.
Lexington, Kentucky
Lexington comes alive in fall with vibrant hues of fall foliage. A perfect destination for equine enthusiasts, take part in horseback riding at The Kentucky Castle. Attend a premier racing event at Keeneland’s Fall Race Meet, Oct. 4–26. Soar above the fall foliage on Boone Creek Outdoors’ Zipline Canopy Tours.
Nasu Highlands, Japan
This mountainous region is home to many of Japan’s most popular hot springs and hiking trails around Mount Nasu. The natural surroundings burst with red, orange and gold in autumn. The area is easily accessible via a 70-minute bullet train from Tokyo.
