While Budapest is well-deserving of your attention, Hungary’s other attractions and regions are often overlooked, and these areas are home to deep-rooted histories and natural wonders. In total, Hungary boasts eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, offering a diverse journey from subterranean landscapes to ancient monastic life.
So, in addition to time spent in Budapest, incorporate these three UNESCO sites into your Hungary travels:
Pannonhalma Archabbey
Founded in 996, this Benedictine Abbey reveals more than 1,000 years of monastic tradition and how it played a major role in the spread of Christianity in Central Europe. The abbey sits on the Sacred Hill of Pannonia, a complex that also includes a 13th-century basilica, 19th-century Classicist library with the oldest surviving Hungarian document, and herbal and botanical gardens. The abbey continues to be an active center of culture and ecumenism, with monks following the Rule of St. Benedict.
Baradla Cave
In Aggtelek Karst, this cave is Hungary’s oldest and most renowned dripstone cave. Its more than 15 miles of passageways were formed in Triassic limestone more than 200 million years ago, and visitors can witness ancient marine fossils, stalactites and stalagmites. For wellness travelers, the cave’s stable microclimate and clean air is said to support respiratory health, with guided meditations often hosted here. And, for music lovers, the cave is a popular venue for underground concerts thanks to its acoustics.
Budapest and Banks of the Danube
Of course, we can’t skip over the beauty of Budapest and the Danube River. The city is recognized as one of the world’s most remarkable cityscapes, featuring Buda Castle Quarter, the Banks of the Danube and Andrássy Avenue. Highlights in the city include 13th-century Gothic remains at the castle, the iconic neo-Gothic Parliament building and Chain Bridge, the first permanent connection between Buda and Pest.

May 6, 2026Parkhotel Oberhausen Review
Oberhausen, on the Ruhr River at the outskirts of Essen, is not merely a city transformed — it is wholly repurposed. In the late 19th and 20th centuries, its main industries were coal mining, iron and steel production, and manufacturing. Today, it is defined by its intentional evolutionary path toward a green, 21st-century city tailored for a healthier and more outdoorsy standard of living. What makes it a particularly compelling choice for a meeting or conference destination is it doesn’t hide its past. Instead, it shows how a municipality can use what’s there to move toward a more environmentally sound future.

Apr 30, 2026Malta’s Sun-Soaked Harbors, Soulful Cuisine Captivate the Young and Young at Heart
Malta cast its spell before I even set foot on shore. From the deck of my cruise ship, I watched Valletta’s fortified limestone walls emerge from the sea, glowing gold against the blue. But no matter how you get there, Malta beguiles once you arrive. And beyond its Baroque architecture and complex history, this archipelago between Sicily and the North African coast has a lot to offer business travelers and their companions, both during working hours and downtime.

Apr 29, 2026Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi Review
More than grand spaces and flashy amenities, the most memorable hotel stays are often defined by the details: lens-polishing cloths set beside your laptop and on your nightstand, an extra pour of a wine the sommelier knows you’ll love, or a bowl of chicken soup delivered to your room when you’re under the weather. These small, intuitive touches shaped my recent stay at Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi.
