With 26 Michelin stars in its culinary pocket, Germany’s capital is always an exciting dining destination — and travelers now have two delicious new venues to look forward to when planning their next trip to Berlin.
Restaurant Wilhelm
Housed within the magnificent Humboldt Forum — a full-sized reproduction of a 16th-century palace — is Restaurant Wilhelm, under the direction of chef Fabian Fiedler. Regarded as one of the country’s top 10 chefs, Fiedler’s German-French menus have a unique focus, incorporating historically inspired dishes often inspired by exhibitions within the Forum, along with regional German and French specialties.
Examples include Jambon de Bayonne, a traditional favorite from the southwestern area of Aquitaine; Imperial Auslese caviar sourced from hybrid sturgeons; onion soup from Baden; and Maultaschen, a Swabian ravioli stuffed with herbs and spinach and served in a mushroom consommé dressed with caramelized shallots from Brittany.
Lovis
At Lovis, you’ll find contemporary German cuisine prepared by chef Sophia Rudolph and her team delivered in a unique setting: the hidden garden of what was once a women’s prison. The lovely restaurant comprises part of the new Hotel Wilminia.
Intrigued? The romantic setting includes wide windows overlooking the garden, perfect for a spring or summer tête-à-tête. The menu centers around sustainably produced meats and the highest quality regional and seasonal produce. Come hungry and order up a plate of crispy polenta served with meadow mushrooms and salted lemon; or a confit of kohlrabi with fennel beurre blanc and gooseberry.
