ONE BEAUTIFUL DAY in Massachusetts during the fall of 1924, Arthur Tauck, Sr. had the idea to offer his first guided tour. Both an entrepreneur and a well-traveled salesman, Tauck was enjoying his lunch at a restaurant overlooking the treetops and was overtaken not only by the beauty of the fall foliage but by the fact the other patrons in the restaurant were all traveling salesmen.
In an effort to show the beauty of the area to leisure travelers less familiar with how to navigate the region, Tauck gathered a group of six paying passengers and, on his next sales trip, rented a Studebaker to carry his eager guests along for a six-day, 1,100-mile, all-inclusive journey through the East Coast’s most stunning scenic spots.
Word spread quickly about Tauck’s tours, and soon his new business was born. Entering its 95th year in business in 2020, the company has been family-owned since its inception. Tours today take place in more than 70 countries on all seven continents, ranging from small-group tours on land to customized cruises for families or solo travelers. Whether offshore or on land, the company’s motto remains the same: “How you see the world matters” — and Tauck guests see the world in truly spectacular ways.
The company specializes in offering guests enriching travel experiences that enhance their lives while also creating lasting memories. Its 150-plus trips include travel by small ship, riverboat, rail and motor coach, with each trip led by a dedicated Tauck Director whose special knowledge of the area provides insider insights on the local culture, history, flora, fauna and more.
One of the most popular Tauck trips takes guests on an eight-day journey through America’s Canyonlands, offering exclusive treats like a Champagne welcome before touring Lake Powell on a dinner cruise, hearing insider stories about the national parks during filmed narratives by filmmakers Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan, and getting a bird’s-eye look at Rainbow Bridge on a flightseeing tour over Glen Canyon.
Along with celebrating its 95th anniversary, the company will add a few more tours to its already extensive list. A new 13-day cruise itinerary will trans- port passengers through cultural destinations in the United Kingdom, France, Spain and Portugal, with a new London, Bordeaux & Iberian Charms journey launching with three dates in September and October 2020. Tauck also ventures for the first time onto the Douro River to offer three cruises, including a family river cruise and two adults-only cruises on the river.

Mar 24, 2025Curling Goes Beyond the Olympics
Who knew throwing a stone or rock down a sheet of ice and sweeping it into position on a target would become so popular? Sure, it is intriguing to watch the techniques curlers use to place a stone in the center of a bull’s-eye, or house, particularly when a teammate starts sweeping the ice to further direct that stone. It takes more skill than just a good throw. Strategy, mental focus, balance and, of course, teamwork, are just the beginning of the curling skills needed to win.
