The majestic Pantanal wilderness region in Brazil is the focus of a new photography safari offered by active touring experts Ciclismo Classico. Master photographer and documentary filmmaker Ossian Lindholm will lead the tour. Home to hundreds of colorful bird species such as the Hyacinth Macaw and Toco Toucan, the Pantanal is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site. Located in the center of South America, the Pantanal includes portions of the Amazon Rainforest, Brazilian Savannah and Paraguayan Chaco.
Besides jungle hiking with local expert guides, participants will spend their nights in authentic fazendas (working plantations), canoe along the Rio Clarinho, fish for piranha and have plenty of occasions to photograph the area’s exotic wildlife residents, which include tapirs, giant anteaters, howler monkeys, caiman, giant river otters and capybaras. Local guides will conduct motorboat excursions through the wetlands, offering a chance to spot one of the stunning jaguars native to the landscape. Tour dates are Aug. 28–Sept. 5. Prices begin at $6,790.
