Describing “foodies” as individuals who crave new dining experiences, but also the exploratory experience of eating, learning and discovering food, WalletHub conducted a study of more than 180 U.S. destinations to find the cities best suited to foodie travelers.

The study named Portland, Oregon, as the top spot, followed by San Francisco, Miami, New York and Los Angeles.

The study looked at data on cost of food, number of high-quality restaurants, number of food festivals and more.

Portland ranked first in categories such as most craft breweries and wineries per capita and most coffee shops per capita. However, it also took first place for highest average beer and wine prices.

The study also found New York is the worst city for cost of groceries, while multiple destinations across Texas ranked highly for low cost of groceries. Midwest hubs like Indianapolis, Detroit, Toledo and Milwaukee ranked for lowest beer and wine prices. New York took first for most restaurants and most gourmet specialty food stores per capita.
