United Airlines pairs with Brooks Brothers, Tracy Reese and Carhartt, to create a new line of uniforms for its more than 70,000 front-line employees, as well as TUMI, to provide luggage for all United flight attendants.

The partnerships are part of a multiyear, best-in-class uniforms program, which guarantees proper collaboration between designers and employees to ensure a resulting product that pleases everyone. The particular brands were chosen based on employee feedback, focus groups, open houses and surveys. The three have now met with employees at all United U.S. hubs to begin the process, with final uniforms slated to appear in 2020.

We recognized early on that this would not be a ‘one size fits all’ solution — front-line employees perform vastly different roles and deserve a uniform that meets their specific needs, created by leaders in the apparel business. Each brand is tasked with serving a certain group of United employees. Brooks Brothers plans to design and manufacture uniforms for all pilots and male flight attendants and customer service representatives. Tracy Reese is partnering with Brooks Brothers to design female flight attendant and customer service representative uniforms, which Brooks Brothers manufactures. Carhartt is outfitting ramp service, technical operations and catering operations employees. The TUMI partnership provides all United flight attendants with a choice of a two-wheel or four-wheel roll-aboard bag.

Since the announcement, labor leadership has praised the new uniform initiative, welcoming high-quality, high-functioning designs employees can be proud of.
