United Airlines partners with TSA to modernize airport security in several locations. Changes include new, automated security lanes, permanent TSA PreCheck enrollment centers and redesigned security checkpoints. “We are working every day with the TSA to develop and launch innovative ways to improve the airport experience for our customers. These improvements demonstrate United’s commitment to use the latest technology to ensure our customers have a reliable and enjoyable experience every step of their journey,” said Greg Hart, executive vice president and COO, United Airlines. The automated lanes debut at Newark (EWR) in the fall, for 17 new lanes in Terminal C. Additional automated lanes debut in Chicago (ORD) and Los Angeles (LAX) later in the year. The new lanes allow up to five travelers to fill bins simultaneously, quickening the security process. Lanes automatically return empty bins to the front of the line. Redesigned checkpoints include consolidating four checkpoints at Newark and building a new customer check-in area and consolidated screening checkpoint in Los Angeles’ Terminal 7. In addition, temporary TSA PreCheck enrollment centers will open in Penn Station in New York, and in Chicago’s Willis Tower. The off-airport sites will provide much-needed customer support. Permanent enrollment centers are slated for Chicago, Newark, Houston (IAH), Los Angeles and San Francisco (SFO).
