Turkish Airlines has signed the biggest deal in Turkey’s civil aviation history, confirming the purchase of 117 Airbus aircraft. Terms of the deal call for the delivery of 25 Airbus A321s, four A320 NEOs and 53 A321 NEOs by 2015, with options for an additional 35 A321 NEOs.
The purchase will bring Turkish Airlines’ fleet to 375 aircraft. Average age of the carrier’s fleet will decrease from its current 6.6 years to five years by the end of 2020.
“Today, we are signing an agreement with Airbus which will enable Turkish Airlines to reach its aims for the year 2023, the centenary of the founding of our republic,” said Hamdi Topçu, board chairman, Turkish Airlines. “This agreement constitutes a giant step for Turkish Airlines on [our] way to become the biggest airline of Europe.”
