Executive Travel released an alert for travelers with expiring passports to renew as soon as possible. Due to new laws in 2008 requiring Americans to have passports for Canada, Caribbean and Mexico travel, millions of new passports were issued at that time. As passports have a 10-year life span, the industry is expecting a massive influx of passport renewal requests in 2017.
The standard amount of time for passport renewal is four to six weeks, but this is expected to jump to as many as 10 weeks for renewal turnaround. It is also important to note many countries will not allow entry with less than six months left on a passport before expiration. For frequent travelers, this is not something to procrastinate. If your passport expires in the next year, get ahead of the game and renew it sooner rather than later.
