Allianz Partners USA recently revealed the results of its 2024 European Summer Travel Index. The travel protection and assistance company analyzed flight itineraries for trips of five–eight days between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Travel to Europe is more popular than ever, with 34 percent more travelers heading across the pond this summer.
London, Paris and Dublin hold on to the same top three spots as 2023. These cities host a variety of music and sporting events this summer, offering a further draw to travelers. Barcelona and Nice bumped 2023 cities Lisbon and Milan from the 2024 list.
The top 10 summer European destinations for 2024 are:

- Paris, France
- Dublin, Ireland
- Edinburgh, Scotland
- Rome, Italy
- Amsterdam, Netherlands
- Reykjavik, Iceland
- Barcelona, Spain
- Athens, Greece
- Nice, France
“Following the pandemic, Europe has been a top summer destination for Americans,” said Daniel Durazo, director of external communications, Allianz Partners USA. “Since transcontinental travel typically requires a more substantial budget to cover the flights, hotels and tours that combine for a memorable trip, the right travel insurance plan becomes even more valuable to protect against covered losses resulting from trip cancellations, interruptions, delays and medical emergencies that are sometimes an unexpected byproduct of vacation planning.”
