Come 2018, you’ll be able to cruise on an incredibly accurate replica of the Titanic, which met its fateful end in the Atlantic Ocean in 1912.
The ship is a project by Australian billionaire Clive Palmer, who is planning Titanic II with his company Blue Star Line. The project was announced in 2012, but delays pushed back the launch.
Titanic II is planned as a near-exact replica to its 1912 original, except one critical upgrade: It will stock lifeboats for all passengers. It will also be four meters wider than the original and feature a welded hull and other modern safety upgrades.
“The new Titanic will, of course, have modern evacuation procedures, satellite controls, digital navigation, and radar systems and all those things you’d expect on a 21st century ship,” said James McDonald, marketing director, Blue Star Line, to the Belfast Telegraph.
The ship is planned for its maiden voyage in 2018. It will have 840 rooms and nine decks divided between first-, second- and third-class tickets. Some 2,400 passengers and 900 crewmembers will be housed on board.
