Located deep in the Caucasus region, Armenia may just be the perfect autumn destination. For one thing, wineries in Yerevan are open for sunset tastings with live entertainment — with some also offering visitors the opportunity to take part in grape picking. At wine bars and cafés, beloved local specialties such as ghapama are served. This seasonal treat involves baking a pumpkin with rice, dried fruits, sweet honey and creamy butter.

Outdoor lovers can revel in the colorful landscapes of Dilijan National Park, where winding forest paths lead to Lake Parz; and Stepanavan Dendropark, home to more than 500 plant species decked out in resplendent fall colors. In the famed spa town of Jermuk, guests can book a relaxing stay at a wellness resort; hike in the fresh air; or visit Jermuk Waterfall, where waters rush into a deep, rocky gorge some 230 feet below.
