With Thanksgiving around the corner, families plan safe, “new normal” celebrations. With different rules and regulations throughout the United States, Thanksgiving will look a little different this year.

Travel may not be the option for some people, but for those visiting family, check out this new survey on Thanksgiving travel.

Wallethub, the personal finance website, released a report on the Safest States to Spend Thanksgiving. For this report, Wallethub compared all 50 states across 10 key metrics to see which provide the safest conditions. The report examined how states are handling the pandemic, positive tests and other general safety concerns, including crime and DUI rates in November.

According to the study, Vermont came in first as the safest state, with the lowest COVID-19 hospitalizations and one of the fewest positive COVID-19 results. Maine followed in second place, and New Hampshire in third.

On the opposite end of the scale, South Dakota, New Mexico and Montana came in the bottom three as the least-safe states to spend the holiday.

Some interesting data: Hawai’i has the lowest number of positive COVID-19 tests in the past week per capita, and North Dakota has the highest number of positive tests. Massachusetts has the lowest property crime rate per 1,000 residents, and Louisiana has the highest.
