Housed in a stately former bank building, the place buzzes with energy. The bar is usually standing room only with chicly dressed businesspeople sipping sophisticated cocktails while nibbling on smoked oysters and saltines. For the ultimate cocktail experience, try one of The Ordinary’s creative concoctions like the Miss Prissy, made with Trinidad and Jamaica rum, rhubarb, Aperol, lemon and grapefruit; or the Duke of Yosemite, a combination of Cappelletti Rabarbaro Sfumato, Barbados rum, lemon and rye whiskey.

Even those who think they don’t like oysters might be won over by the crispy oyster sliders. For those interested in trying more exotic variations of seafood, there are razor clams and Spanish octopus. No question seafood is king at The Ordinary, but the menu also offers some tempting items that don’t include fish like crookneck squash casserole with Parmesan and basil, or Goldbar zucchini carpaccio with almond and mint. Even the desserts have a uniquely Southern twist, like Carolina gold rice pudding with blackberry and basil. The Ordinary is always packed, so reservations are a must, but for a seafood lover this is the place to go in downtown Charleston.
