TAP Portugal aims to bring high numbers of travelers to Lisbon and Porto in the coming years. The newly launched Portugal Stopover program allows long-haul passengers to stay in Lisbon or Porto up to three days before continuing on their journey. TAP hopes to attract as many as 300,000 new visitors, potentially adding as much as €150 million to the Portuguese economy. The program comes in the wake of TAP’s newest routes, originating in Boston (BOS) and New York (JFK), which increase the airline’s flights from the United States to 30 a week. The program targets travelers from the United States and Brazil traveling via TAP to Europe and Africa, and vice versa. It includes partnerships with 150 other brands offering special hotel and dining rates for Portugal Stopover travelers and complimentary experiences. “Our goal is to bring 150,000 more tourists to Portugal in 2017 and 300,000 in 2018 with the launch of Portugal Stopover, thus reinforcing our support to promote Portugal as a first class tourism destination and also enhancing the relevance of TAP to the Portuguese national economy, generating wealth and creating jobs,” said Fernando Pinto, CEO, TAP Portugal. The Portugal Stopover experience is bookable via the online flight search tool on the airline’s website. Passengers taking part can use the program’s innovative app, available for both iOS and Android, which acts as a virtual identification card when interacting with partner brands while in Lisbon or Porto.
