Having a Blast at Morton Arboretum
No matter the time of year, when we visit my daughter's family in the Chicago area, we always try to schedule a visit to the Morton Arboretum, conveniently located for us right in their town in the western suburbs, Lisle. We gift Sarah and Dan with a family membership every Christmas, and there are always special exhibits, performances, classes or plant sales --- in addition to acres and acres of trees, shrubs and flowers --- to take in. Founded by Joy Morton (of Morton Salt fame, and whose father founded Arbor Day) in 1922, the Arboretum's mission is to collect and study trees and plants from around the world and display them in a natural landscape for visitors to enjoy.

Baby on Board
As I boarded my Delta flight back from Los Angeles (LAX), a female passenger handed me a typed note explaining that her infant child was on board (first class) and he was a good baby, but if he cried, they had ear plugs. I asked where she came up with this idea. "The Today Show, she said. I told her the best thing to do if her baby cried would be to walk him up and down the aisles. As a father of two, I know you cannot expect a child to be comfortable for an entire long journey. As they age, it is the responsibility of the parents to make sure enough entertainment is available and they are able to walk around.

The SCAW Difference
Dave Dryden has flown several thousand miles and is on his way to one million, but a different million was his goal (actually, originally his father's goal), a goal that was met last year. Dave, through the organization Sleeping Children Around the World, oversaw the distribution of its one millionth bedkit. (Bedkits consist of a mattress, blanket, pillow and other bedding essentials.)
