Cock-a-Doodle-Doo!
My husband and I have had a busy spring, but earlier this week we realized it had been quite a while since we'd treated ourselves to a nice dinner out. I recalled a restaurant review I'd read in our local paper about a month ago for a small French restaurant in nearby Ashland, and we agreed to give it a try. Husband-and-wife team Nat and Grace Borsi (he's the chef, and she runs the front of the house) opened it almost two years ago, wanting to create a friendly, casual place with a neighborhood bistro vibe. They wanted the name to be a little French but not too fancy or high-end sounding. They hit upon Cocorico, the French "cock-a-doodle-doo," and I can assure you, everything about this place gave me something to crow about!

Chocolate Indulgence
I look forward to attending the Oregon Chocolate Festival, held in nearby Ashland, Oregon, every year . . . for the most obvious reason: chocolate! The organizers of this event wisely schedule it for early March, after St. Valentine's Day when the weather is usually gloomy and there isn't much happening. They make a whole weekend of it, with a chocolate makers' wine dinner and silent auction on Friday evening, a chocolate brunch offered on Saturday and Sunday mornings, family fun runs on Sunday, a Wonka chocolate costume contest and family activities (kids 8 and under enjoy free admission). For those looking for more indulgence, a local spa features some special chocolate massage and facial experiences.
Exquisite Dining at MÄS
My husband and I celebrated my birthday last week with a most memorable and delightful dinner at a very special restaurant in nearby Ashland. We had been hearing and reading great things about Josh Dorcak's MÄS for some time and decided my birthday made for an appropriate occasion to treat ourselves to his tasting menu dinner. The chef trained at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school and later moved to Southern Oregon in his 20s. He worked at others' restaurants but had a very particular vision for his own place. MÄS, serving Cascadian cuisine, started as a pop-up at a local bakery and then took up a small, neat space off an alley in downtown Ashland.

Chocolate Deep Dive
Last weekend in Southern Oregon we were forecast to get very unseasonable snow showers, but it would have taken blizzard conditions to keep me away from the 2023 Oregon Chocolate Festival, an event I had been unable to attend for the last five years. Thankfully, the predicted storm ended up delivering just a few wet flurries, but the event delivered up a plethora of chocolate tastings along with a wide assortment of other food and drinks that pair well with that food of the gods.
