Starbucks To Open Enormous NYC Roastery

May 14, 2016
Daily

Starbucks launched its Epcot-esque Roastery concept in its hometown of Seattle, and now it is expanding with a location in New York City’s Meatpacking district. New York has 220 Starbucks locations, but this one is pretty different from the typical café. For starters, it’s huge, covering 20,000 square feet designed to highlight the process of roasting and brewing coffee with blends from around the world. Customers can learn more about the craft of coffee. If the Seattle location is any indication, it’s also going to be fairly futuristic in design, with fancy coffee equipment, ultra-modern furnishings, and plenty of hip (and pricey) coffee gear, from brewing methods to tumblers. The place is a bit sensory overload the first visit, with several counters for ordering coffee and loads of single-origin beans and brewing methods to choose from. You can also watch the roasting process, which is front and center in the building. The New York outpost of the so-called Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room is set to open in 2018. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.

The Art of Balance in Seoul: Beyond the Boardroom

The value of a destination is no longer defined solely by infrastructure, efficiency or scale. Increasingly, it is measured by a city’s ability to balance productivity with well-being — creating opportunities for focus, restoration and more meaningful connections.
