Spirit Airlines is known for its low fares and matching service, but the discount airline is taking steps to make guests more comfortable. One step involves upgrading seats with a new ergonomic design and some extra cushion to improve passengers’ posture.
Debuting this fall, the seats feature extra cushioning and lumbar support, while passengers in the middle seat will notice slightly more width. Middle seats will expand by one inch, making the seating position a bit more comfortable.
As far as reclining, all seats will feature one extra inch of “pre-recline” room in which the seat tilts backward. Spirit maintains this pre-recline function will give passengers the illusion of even more legroom, but this measurement will stay the same at 28 inches, one of the smallest among the world’s airlines.
Passengers in Spirit’s big front seats will also enjoy an upgrade: Headrests and seats will be padded with additional memory foam.
As one of the lower ranking airlines, these comfort measures are just the beginning of Spirit’s plan to improve the passenger experience.
