A lot’s changed in Winter Park, Fla. since 20^th-century presidents Chester A. Arthur and Grover Cleveland swung through town (not at the same time), and the sandy, palm-treed land sold for $2 an acre. Back then, the Seminole Hotel with its fancy gaslights and steam heat set a new standard for luxury. Today, the opening of the new Alfond Inn adds to the city’s long tradition of lodging, but with an altruistic twist: the hotel belongs to Rollins College, and net operating income from the property will feed The Alfond Scholars program fund for the next 25 years, or until endowment principal reaches $50 million.

To celebrate its educational connections, guests at the Alfond Inn can enjoy Art in the Park stays. Included: two nights accommodation in a classic king room, admission to both the Cornell Fine Art Museum and The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art and a guided tour of The Alfond Contemporary Art Collection. There’s also a $100 credit for the inn’s Hamilton’s Kitchen, were Executive Chef Chris Windus offers a menu inspired by the Sunshine State. The price of $395, based on double occupancy, is good through the end of the year.
