This campaign launched in 2021 and continues this year to help find innovative solutions and initiatives to tackle climate change, work toward eradicating homelessness, provide greater access to renewable energy sources in remote areas and more.
Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022
Scotland’s official theme for 2022 is Year of Stories, and the country will share its stories through spoken and written word, in song and on film. Travel planners can anticipate events from VisitScotland Business Events, community groups, museums and heritage sites.
The Highland Games
The Highland Games, a key part of Scottish culture for hundreds of years, return in person this spring. Groups find first-hand experience of this sporting tradition a wonderful reason to visit and learn more about the character of Scotland.
New Flights
WestJet added Scotland to its international destinations with new, non-stop service from Toronto (YYZ) to Edinburgh (EDI) and Glasgow (GLA), beginning this spring. Edinburgh launches June 2, with three weekly fights, and Glasgow takes off May 20, four times weekly.
Hotel Openings, Reopenings and Developments
- Brew Dog Hotel, opened Dec. 7, 2021, as a beer-themed hotel in Edinburgh’s Old Town
- The 5-star Cameron House Hotel, in Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, officially reopened in September 2021
- The Gleneagles Hotel recently opened a new Spa at Gleneagles
- Gleneagles Townhouse will be the first-ever city location for Gleneagles, at Edinburgh’s St. Andrew Square, opening winter 2022
- Two Virgin Hotels will open this year: Virgin Hotels Edinburgh and Virgin Hotels Glasgow
- W Edinburgh will debut in Scotland later this year
