A recent survey from TravelMag.com determined Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic is the most affordable Caribbean destination when compared to other popular destinations in the region. The survey compared and contrasted 30 destinations and based their results on accommodation costs for double guestrooms with ratings of three stars or higher during the month of February, which is part of the region’s high season. All hotels and resorts considered were required to have primarily positive reviews from past guests and be located in a desirable location.

Santo Domingo came in with prices as low as $43 per night, with the city’s neighbor, Punta Cana, coming in fourth place, with prices as low as $87 per night. In contrast, the most expensive Caribbean destination out of those surveyed was St. Barts, which saw an average cost of $324 for a double guestroom at a 3-star hotel or resort.

For further reference, the five most expensive destinations, in descending order, were St. Barts, Anguilla, St. Martin, Providenciales (part of the Caicos Islands) and Grand Cayman. The five most affordable destinations, in descending order, were Bonaire, Punta Cana, St. Vincent, Willemstad (Curacao) and Santo Domingo.
