Kempinski Hotel Bahía, in Estepona, Spain, boasts a full calendar of holiday events, Nov. 30, 2019–Jan. 6, 2020.

It all kicks off with the lighting of the hotel’s lavish diamond Christmas tree, Nov. 30. Father Christmas conducts the Christmas tree lighting and opens the traditional Christmas market to the public. The tree, decorated by Debbie Wingham Diamond Designer, is decked out with millions of dollars’ worth of jewels and precious metals. The tree remains lit through Jan. 6. An additional event centering around the tree takes place Dec. 28, during which guests enjoy a cocktail dinner reception and one guest will find a real diamond at the bottom of their Champagne glass.

The traditional Christmas market features a bakery workshop, life-sized gingerbread house and choir performances. From Dec. 1, guests can attend the daily Christmas afternoon tea or the bakery workshop. A Christmas Eve Gala Dinner features a specially created cocktail and dinner menu. Christmas Day, guests enjoy a brunch with live music and kid’s entertainment, as well as a visit from Father Christmas as he wraps up his work for the year.

Between Christmas and New Year’s, guests can attend the Dec. 27 Flamenco Night or the Dec. 30 Seafood Dinner. To ring in the New Year, the hotel hosts a gala dinner, cocktail reception and brunch.

“As part of our 120-year-old Kempinski heritage, we believe that Christmas is a very special time of year for us and we wish to share it with both our guests and locals. So we have created a truly magnificent festive season, and this year our calendar is full of exceptional events,” said Axel Bethke, general manager, Kempinski Hotel Bahía.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
